Progression of a Motif.
There has been a definite progression of one aspect of my drawing / design, it is the eyes.
I am consistently drawn to the face, from realism through to abstract forms, I find the face fascinating.
As I progress though different story telling phases and motif designs, I have developed a stylized eye shape. I initially began with a broad crescent and circle, incredibly simple and out of proportion for the realistic face shape, at that time I was focused on developing a unique style. It gave my drawings / figures a ghoulish appearance. Now the eye I draw is still stylized, but closer in portrayal to the actual human eye. It better suits the current imagery that I am exploring, as well as being adaptable to the mediums I am working across (print, paint and ceramic).
